CareSource is a company with its heart in the right place, having started with the lofty goal of providing to those in need. Unfortunately, the glory days of CareSource are over. The sudden growth that came with Affordable Care Act, coupled with the economic downturn, and just plain incompetence, has had its effect. CareSource is no longer a great company to work for.
The current political climate only adds uncertainty to a company that has passed its zenith.
CareSource has a hiring freeze. If a coworker, who sees the writing on the wall, leaves then your work load could double. They will not be replaced and your life will suffer. Your pay will stay the same as your workload increases. If you’re a salary worker, you’ll find yourself working additional hours -without overtime- to cover for those that have not been replaced.
If the worker was in a higher paygrade than you, you will take on their work, while not being promoted. Everyone should ask themselves: Do I want to work somewhere where I cannot be promoted? Do I want to work somewhere if a team member leaves I’ll have to take on their work, as well as my current work, for the same pay? Do I want to work somewhere I have a limited chance for a bonus? Do I want to work somewhere where the mercurial nature of politics could render me unemployed?
Nurses found themselves forced into a higher paygrade and workload for the same pay. Workloads increased for the call center. It happened in IT. It’s happening all over the company. Once again, ask yourself: Do I want to work somewhere my options are limited?
The company lost money last year and did not pay any bonuses to their employees; there is no reason to think bonuses will come back. It is just one more sign of a company on the decline .
The company used to promote often from within, which was a great opportunity but means that many unqualified people are in positions they shouldn’t be. These people are often in meetings that contribute nothing to the process. They will be of no help if you ever need to work with them, and will slow you down often; these people are not going to leave CareSource. Eventually, the qualified workers will leave for other companies and they will be all that is left.
The large growth has transitioned what were larger groups of collective teams to into silos. As the teams splintered, teams became self-absorbed. Concern for teams in other buildings wanned. Teamwork between groups became terse. Simple task now take weeks, or longer, and often involve numerous meetings for what should be accomplished easily. This is another reason why the company ceased to be a fun place to work.
The political nature of the company adds so many layers of friction that it absolutely demoralizes anyone that wants to produce ample quality work efficiently. Eventually you’ll have no choice but to quit caring if you are efficient. You’ll learn to work in the system. You’ll find yourself no longer the same person you were you when you were hired and desire to work somewhere else.
