Pros

Good Benefits, can work from home, flex time, HR has coloring books at lunch.

Cons

Leadership does not work well together. They are butting heads constantly and trying to outdo each other and it can get pretty nasty at what they do to undermine each other. The company tends to hire multiple members of the same family which get tricky when so many family members are working in the same department. You can't really fire them if they are doing poorly or you will upset the remaining family members so you are stuck with sub par performance. Very Poor training from managers and leadership. Most of the employees there are older and have not kept up with technology so things run slowly. Management is not open to new ideas and you get shot down very quickly. Lots of cliques at this workplace. You better be on the inside of one. Lots of hours are expected, especially in Finance. Be prepared to work most weekends and lots of evenings.

We appreciate your feedback and are glad you found meaningful benefits during your years at Carhartt. We regret, however, the experiences you encountered with leadership. As you may know, the results of our most recent Associate Engagement Survey have focused a companywide effort on Leadership Effectiveness to create strong and effective leaders. These improvements are supported by initiatives such as enhanced leadership development programs and accountability of leadership behaviors. Thank you for also sharing your work environment concerns - they do not align with our aim of providing the greatest work-life balance possible, nor of having the most qualified person selected for an opportunity. Your valuable feedback will be shared in our ongoing efforts. We are sorry that you will not be able to see or experience the progress that we have made, and will continue to make.

Pros

Strong brand name recognition and decent initial compensation structures.

Cons

The corporate culture is brutally toxic and operates exactly like a high school lunch table—whoever is the loudest or the manager's favorite gets rewarded, while actual performance metrics are ignored. Top performers (even those in the top 5% of sales) are regularly targeted if they do not play the political game. Middle management is allowed to operate completely unchecked. There is a pattern of managers fabricating elaborate, false narratives about employees—including manipulating the perception of approved expense reports and territory mileage—to force them out. HR acts entirely as a shield for these toxic managers rather than an impartial department. They blindly accept management's narratives without conducting fair investigations or listening to the accused. Furthermore, management actively stalks and monitors employees' personal social media accounts, even when those employees are out on approved medical leave, and HR explicitly defends this invasion of privacy as acceptable.
