Pros
Carpenter is considered one of the top metals companies for which to work. It is a long-established company with a good industry reputation. When opportunities become available, a good employee who works hard can move forward in his/her career. Depending on the executive environment, innovation is valued. Base salaries can be lucrative and benefits (medical, etc.) are some of the best in any industry.
Cons
Mid-upper management is still an old boy club. Long-time employees fall in two categories: change agents who want to continue to contribute at a high level but are relegated to support or special project roles with little influence or incompetent/jaded workers who are tolerated until retirement. New employees are not mentored enough; overworked and often told to "wait in line" for earned promotions or pay raises. Work/life balance is difficult to maintain the higher one goes and people who value it are pegged as not team players.
