Pros

Most of the staff are great to work with, other RNs are always there to mentor, assist when needed and provide whatever support is needed as a team. Being in a hospital, I have practiced a wide variety of nursing skills and now feel very confident in my role as a RN. The health insurance is not very good.

Cons

The hospital is understaffed, so our unit in particular gets pulled to other units, leaving our unit understaffed regularly. Staffing is not considerate of the acuity of the patients, which is very stressful as a RN, feeling like we are spread way too thin. Opportunities to move to a specialty, like OR/PACU or Oncology for instance, is difficult to get into. Jobs are only available to outside applicants, when they should be available to internal applicants first; the hospital has room to train in specialties and should offer that opportunity to staff who are trying to move to that specialty.
