Pros
The one thing Castlight has going for it is the drive and caliber of its talent. The company has managed to gather exceptional people in its engineering and product groups. These are young, high-energy Type-A personalities who are super-engaged in their mission, driven by an almost evangelical zeal that upper management has succeeded in imparting upon the team. They aim to achieve nothing short of a complete transformation of the US healthcare industry. Management has also succeeded in binding these people into a tightly-knit community. It's a pleasure to belong to such an eclectic group.
Cons
Unfortunately, besides community and a sense of mission, management has failed to deliver on the other ingredients necessary for success. There is a lack of strategic direction and focus. Sales have been stuck in neutral for quite some time now. Compound that with going public too early, and you have a company that must live up to Wall Street's myopic expectations even as it aims to deliver on a goal 10 years out. The result is the company's first RIF, trimming 15% of the workforce and, possibly, a downward spiral
