Pros
The company tries to be competitive with pay by looking at industry averages for roles and adjusts cost of living. Benefits are through BlueShield for medical, Guardian for dental, and Davis for vision. They do have a 4% matching on 401k via Principal. There are a lot of opportunities for training and certifications, especially if you are in the cybersecurity field. You can get training and certifications for other areas. Most of the employees are remote workers from across the country, so that is a huge benefit.
Cons
There are really two companies and cultures at CIS. On one side there is the security operations unit that is responsible for the cyber security operations side of the house, which is heavily staffed by ex-DoD/NSA/CIA/FBI/etc folks. This side has a toxic culture that doesn't lend itself well to those coming from corporate America. It's heavily male dominated, misogynistic and very off-putting for female employees. The other side of the company is top heavy, badly understaffed, overworked, underfunded, and under skilled. The IT department in particular struggles to stay afloat and operates much like you'd expect a small mom and pop shop from the 90s to work. The executive team is way too caught up in trying to apply "agile" without understanding what it takes to be successful on that path. Leadership is indecisive and incapable of making decisions with good outcomes. Employees consistently complain about the constant stream meetings and standup calls that are non-productive and cause them to work longer hours. It's not uncommon for employees to complain in-private about not feeling motivated to get up in the morning and login to work. Their spouses will complain about the stress, unhappiness, and negative health impacts this work environment places on their loved ones. There is a strong toxic undercurrent that the CEO cultivates that undermines the organization and hinders their ability to retain quality staff. It's not uncommon for the CEO to berate and degrade staff in all-hands meetings and directly. Managers tend to be "yes" people and operate in an environment of fear. Overall, if you are looking for a modern professional environment that is safe, you should think twice about considering this company.
