Pros

healthcare coverage is decent, colleagues and co-workers are great. The mission is worthwile.

Cons

The CEO gets way into the weeds on every project, making all the critical decisions, but then talks out of the other side of his mouth about delegating responsibility down to middle management levels. It's not uncommon for project managers and senior managers to be berated and insulted on calls. The executives take most of the brunt of the wrath, shielding the employees from the lion's share of the abuse (hence why you see 5-star reviews here from the front-line workers). HR is aware of the situation but sits idly by and doesn't do anything. A culture of fear permeates through senior management.  Quality employees have been fired or quit due to stress. Meanwhile, zero producers are sheltered while maintaining their pay and titles and shedding responsibility. It's not uncommon to see a director or senior director with more direct reports and responsibility than a VP, and the VP is getting paid considerably more for doing less.  There is a lot of red tape and bureaucracy—meetings after meetings for the most minor decisions. The CEO and COO will arbitrarily make technical decisions that alter projects without a complete understanding of the ramifications of their choices. The tech stack is old. The CIO and CFO shops run more like a mom-and-pop business than a company of 500 people. HR and the executive board look at the CEO's verbal abuse and do nothing. Pay is less than industry standards.

Pros

I have been working for CIS now for 3 years and while the past year especially has been full of challenges, I have NEVER worked for an employer who ACTUALLY cares so much about their employees (and they put their money where their mouth is too). One of my favorite parts is the Nourish Your Soul events put on monthly where CIS provides us with 2+ hours of enrichment activities. They reward good work with spot bonuses & raises AND they have preserved the yearly cost-of-living increases.

Cons

Last year was a difficult with Doge cutting our government funding but I am incredibly proud of how the company handled this difficult transition while still expressing how much value their employees bring.

Pros

Great mission, world-wide impact, a leader among non-profits in cybersecurity for over 25 years.

Cons

Claims of great culture mask a lot of internal problems. Micromanagement of everything from the top down. CEO is a poor fit for the current situation - micromanaging, arrogant, vindictive, poor decision-making. Isn't there a Board of Directors? What do they do to guide this company?
