Laid back atmosphere, but compensation and benefits were lacking. - Loss Control Consultant Central Insurance Employee Review

Pros

It’s a small company, giving them ability to quickly pivot, and providing a close-knit community type feel. Fairly common to meet and interact with upper management/officers even as an entry level employee. One of a few private companies still offering a pension. Workload could be heavy at times, but management did a good job of maintaining a laid back atmosphere even during the busiest times. For a small insurance company, technology was prioritized in most departments. The claims and underwriting systems put larger companies to shame.

Cons

The promotion choices at times appeared questionable. Seemed like technical expertise, seniority, and work quality were not as highly regarded as “how you make me feel,” and “fitting in with the club.” Seen many good employees denied promotions in favor of people who literally had very little experience but offered “potential.” I was paid on average 10% less than mean market rate for every position during my work history. The benefits weren’t that stellar either. A shared profit plan (SPP), but the bonus can only go into your retirement account. No choice in the matter. High medical coverage.
