Pros

To get experience working with those that have developmentally dissabilites and to learn how to deal with difficult people at all times. To better understand those with dissabilities and to learn that they are no different than everyone else. To get an understanding of behavior and how it effects everyone especially whyen the behavior is negative or harmful. To learn the process of behavior management and how to identify it. Learning ways of responding to beahvior you don't want and gedtting the behaviors you do want. Working with others on a team to get the best out of your consumers.

Cons

Having to do restrainsts, dealing with managers that have little training and bad interpersonal skills. Stress realated to the more severe cases and having that stress doubled when you have a supervisor that doesn't support or listen to you. The possibity of injury, the pay, dealing with staff that have little to no training (subs) and who complain when they are assigned particular consumers because they don't want to deal with the behaviors of that consumer. Not being able to take a lunch break due to thier "working lunch" policy. Being sick all the time from the bad hygiene and drool and germs passed around.

Pros

Although the work is challenging the participants make it place! You will form amazing relationships with them and helping them learn and grow will enrich your life!

Cons

Management shows very little care for the team. They do little things here and there but lack a real understanding of the day to day tole the job takes on the team. The are also very quick to point blame or reprimand the staff for any and every little thing.
