Upper management is completely disconnected of the reality - Principal Software Developer Cerence AI Employee Review

Pros

The benefits are good, the technology is modern and interesting, and middle and lower management are doing their best to improve things.

Cons

Upper Manager doesn`t listen to the developers/engineers and their managers. They have an idea of what they want to build and how they think it can be made that doesn't match reality, so they are often frustrated for not getting what they want. They also impose absurd bureaucratic rules that make no sense and help nothing with productivity but make people unhappy and leave. Currently, we are bleeding with attrition (people extremely important leaving all the time and there is nobody hired to replace them).

Pros

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Cerence. I learned a lot, grew significantly, and met many great people from around the world.

Cons

The number of reorganizations and layoffs took a huge toll on the company culture and morale. The company's vision and strategy was hard to pin down as well, which made my job more challenging in a less than ideal way. It was also frustrating that the tuition reimbursement advertised upon signing was actually dependent on department budgets and discretion, so I never had the chance to use it.
