Pros
Lots of good, getting better every year. First, values. They're bs at most companies, but Checkr's values actually show up in how teams work together, prioritize, improve, recruit, etc. The CEO lives them too and doesn't chase attention like many founders; low key, focused on the mission. Checkr isn't as big a name as other bay area tech companies, but revenue growth, profitability, and scale are actually top tier, and trending up. People are sharp, low ego. Teammates will change their minds when new info shows up. Good ideas get airtime no matter who brings them. Lots of AI adoption, in a great way. Can use pretty much any tool you want unlike a lot of companies. On the R&D side, the new AI features for customers are legit, really cool, not forced in to check a box or pretending to be an AI company. Also a big fan of the mission and balance of safety and fairness. Checkr genuinely helps millions of people every year. Love that across the company people do the right thing for customers, whether a big company or a person just trying to get a job, even if it's really tough to do. Comp and benefits are solid too. Not sky high like Open AI, but very good.
Cons
Not a "set it and forget it" environment. The company is moving past traditional background checks into a bigger platform. Takes a lot of work, lots of change. Change can be tough. Priorities, playbooks, orgs, etc. shift. Staying aligned takes effort. Not the place to be if you just want to chill/cruise along. Can be a roller coaster sometimes, but fun since the company is on the offensive and winning. Career progression opps are fine, many people get promoted, but not like an early stage company where you can jump from entry level to Director super fast. Promotions to Sr. Dir and VP are rare, typically those leaders are sourced externally, and would be good to see CSuite develop more of that talent internally.
