Pros

• Every other weekend off – The rotating schedule offers a predictable work-life rhythm, which is appreciated. • Consistent daily duties – Tasks generally follow the same pattern each day, which helps with routine and efficiency. • Hands-on experience in security – Good entry-level exposure to healthcare security, including patient/visitor screening and safety protocols. • Certifications provided – Opportunity to complete CPR, MCPP (Crisis Prevention), and CHSO (Certified Healthcare Security Officer).

Cons

• Low pay for high responsibility – Compensation does not match the nature of the work, which includes threat assessment, crisis response, and constant interaction with the public. • Overtime is not standard – Associates only receive time-and-a-half pay after 40 hours/week, not for working beyond regular shifts or holidays. • Limited holiday pay – Only a few major holidays qualify, even if you’re scheduled on other national holidays. • Associates treated as ‘less than’ by Officers – Despite doing safety-related tasks, Associates are often not respected or included as part of the Public Safety team. • Poor cleanliness from coworkers – Shared workspaces are often left messy, and there’s little accountability. • Lack of advancement opportunities – Internal growth into Officer positions is unclear and requires training that is hard to obtain without additional time or permission. • Understaffed and high turnover – Makes the job more stressful and places more burden on the dependable staff members. • Uneven workloads – Reliable workers are often overtasked while others underperform without consequence. • Micromanagement and inconsistent leadership – Focus is often placed on minor rules (e.g., appearance) while bigger issues like disrespect or safety gaps are ignored. Communication gaps – Shift changes and policy updates are not always delivered clearly or in a timely fashion
