Business Outlook
Pros
Ratios are pretty good. I’m on an ICU stepdown/CT surgery/telemetry floor and ratios are 1:4 on days, 1:5 on nights max. Charge can have 1-2 patients but it is avoided if possible. You always have a PCA to help with patient care and get vitals, etc. You have respiratory therapists to give breathing treatments, IV therapy to place your IVs and phlebotomy to draw your labs. Christ also has a STAT team to respond if you feel your patient is deteriorating.
Cons
The pay isn’t as good as other healthcare systems. You have to go get your own admits from the ED and PACU. There is no union. You have to work every third weekend and there is 12 hours of on call per schedule period.
