Pros

Get to see beautiful, historic works of art from all corners of the world on a daily basis. Colleagues are all very intelligent and driven, everyone shares a love of art and culture. Fun receptions, great benefits.

Cons

Benefits are great but the pay is TERRIBLE. It doesn't even out. It is particularly atrocious at the junior level, but it remains true for mid-career individuals as well. The company has recently said they are aware of the low pay and are going to "work on it," but when speaking to managers they have said there are no plans in place. No room for career growth. People jump around from coordinator position to coordinator position but are not able to move up. There is zero investment in cultivating talent at the junior level, so many people leave. Even if you work in a department for years, they will hire from outside or from a different department. For the late hours and high pressure in the specialist departments particularly, the pay is genuinely insulting, and the lack of career growth or investment is demoralizing. It is an extremely pervasive problem that everyone acknowledges.
