Pros
- Big name, fast paced work place so you are thrown into the deep end and can learn a lot from very experienced staff - Specialists are all very educated, intelligent and leaders in their field and it was a pleasure to learn from them. Many of them have been with the company for at least a decade, if not two. It really was wonderful to be surrounded by these professionals. - The industry itself is very exciting, being in the auction room is exhilarating
Cons
- Each specialist department is so different in personality and culture that there is no overall company "feel" - Seems the company has changed a lot in recent years as there is a generation of staff who have been there for a very long time, yet many of the junior staff tend to leave before their 2nd or 3rd years, which brings me to the next point - - Talent retention is poor: Junior staff (in certain departments) are often quite burdened with a heavy work load yet told to work less as the company doesn't want to pay OT! People who paid to go to the Christie's master's program are fast tracked so sometimes staff who perhaps have worked longer with the organization actually don't get ahead as quickly and don't know how to. - Limited benefits / compensation
