Pros
Clarks is like any other retail job in terms of expectation, work, and responsibility. In short, it's an easy job that has good pay in comparison to other stores.
Cons
My experience at this Clarks location was negative due to the behavior of management and the overall work culture. The management team during my time there exhibited unprofessional and immature behavior, such as passive-aggressiveness, disrespect, rudeness, and favoritism. They fostered a toxic work environment where gossip and cliques thrive. Furthermore, management's habit of making inappropriate comments and "jokes" at the expense of me and other employees was unacceptable and contributed to the hostile atmosphere. One of the main issues I had was the hypocrisy when it came to management enforcing the rules. Employees are expected to not talk to each other or be on their phones while working on the sales floor, which is valid. However, management often broke these rules. This includes one of them (TL/AM) using her phone to text and watch videos and both members talking/gossiping with the sales associates they favored about non work-related things. This was especially frustrating when they would assign certain employees, including myself, to complete tasks while they walked off to chat with others who could be helping with the tasks in question. (This is why I advise anyone to not work harder than they need to because they'll start to take advantage.) In addition, under the management of the 1st SM, there seemed to be some favoritism at play when it came to the distribution of hours. It appeared that those who had personal relationships with the SM or were liked by her more got better hours than others (even if they didn't deserve it), which I find unfair and biased. Outside of management, most of the other sales associates were decent for the most part with a few exceptions. Certain people lacked maturity, felt they had the authority to tell others what to do, or joined in on management's childish behavior and "jokes". Additionally, the products are unattractive and comfort is lacking in a lot of their shoes. This, along with the repetitiveness of certain styles under different names, reflects poorly on the brand and offers customers little to nothing when it comes to diversity.
