Pros

Solid base pay despite no additional benefits beyond the basics. Some great people in marketing’s upper leadership positions.

Cons

My manager was hired & she immediately stifled my work because she didn’t understand my skillset. She had me instead do busywork that aligned with her own background, and shrouded me away from my sales-facing role. I was doing more strategic marketing work as an intern 15 years ago than what she was asking me to do at Cloudflare. Her hiring immediately dragged us back to marketing that worked in 2005 rather than driving us forward. She was getting nearly nothing out of me as a highly paid resource for her team, because she didn’t know how to trust me to do my job. There are a lot of amazing people in marketing leadership at Cloudflare, but I just got unlucky. Your direct lower-level manager dictates your experience here, and if your manager is afraid to trust their team because they always need to be the smartest person in the room and can’t handle managing a team member that has a different background than their own; just get out and find a company where you’re empowered. It won’t go anywhere with HR or leadership. In my case it was wasted energy to advocate for myself to HR and leadership.

Pros

- Strong platform - Mostly friendly and smart people - Good salary, but substandard benefits

Cons

- Strong culture of favoritism: if you’re not an OG or coming in from Palo Alto, you’ll face an uphill battle in sales. - Sales culture is terribly toxic, political, and cliquey, especially with the Palo Alto Networks invasion. - Ridiculous internal processes and poorly designed tools (still use more spreadsheets than tools, quotes can take weeks and I’m not kidding) - Zero sales tools (No Outreach, Gong, good luck even getting Zoom Info) - Substandard BDR team with 12:1 ratios of BDR to AE. Got zero set meetings in over 1 year with our team’s BDR.
