Pros

Insurance was good, facilities were very nice.

Cons

Eliminated bonuses, long hours with no real breaks, short lunches, unrealistic metrics, lying to people on the phone endlessly, repetitive, everyone was declining both physically and mentally since working there. Then they laid the entire department off out of nowhere after just hiring a bunch of people.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your experience working at CoStar Group. We'd like to share the business decisions behind some of the recent organizational shifts in the research department. With the success of our Apartments.com business, our methods for capturing data in the multifamily space – whether through electronic feeds, direct user entry, or other methods – have simply evolved. As a result, we conducted an organizational realignment to ensure job functions match with our methods for collecting information and are more in-line with the future direction of the business. As the leader in the multifamily space, Apartments.com continues to extend our footprint and will expand our focus by increasing the sales force. We have hired 100 new outbound multifamily sales consultants based in Richmond. Unfortunately, because of this shift of focus, the Community Research role based in Atlanta, GA was eliminated. This decision was purely business-related in an effort to align our research and sales resources to current data collection methods. It was not at all related to employee or company financial performance. Decisions like these that affect the daily lives of our employees are nevre made lightly. We value our employees and the work they do in making CoStar Group the leading provider of commercial real estate information, analytics, and online marketplaces. Impacted employees were offered the appropriate resources to help them through this transition. These employees also have the opportunity to apply for one of the new outbound multifamily sales positions, or any other open position within the company where their skills align to the job requirements. Pros

This company makes a strong first impression during the interview and training process. Unfortunately, my experience after onboarding was very different. Decision-making is highly centralized, leaving employees with very little autonomy. The company emphasizes ethics and integrity, but my experience did not consistently reflect those values. Favoritism also appeared to play a significant role in how employees were treated and how decisions were made. HR presents itself as a resource for employees, but concerns often end with, “It will be up to your manager.” That can be frustrating when the issue involves your manager or requires an impartial review. CoStar has developed a reputation for these issues, and from what I experienced, it wasn’t always this way. A few years ago, the company at least appeared to prioritize its employees. Today, that commitment feels diminished. The return-to-office expectations can also be unreasonable. During severe weather, employees are still expected to report to the office even when many other companies in the area allow employees to work remotely for safety. Finally, performance expectations and metrics are frequently changed, making goals increasingly difficult to achieve. Combined with inconsistent communication from leadership, it creates an environment where employees often feel unsupported and uncertain about expectations.
