Crap - Global Account Manager Cogent Communications Employee Review

I worked at Cogent Communications expecting a strong sales culture, but found a KPI-obsessed environment where leadership cared more about numbers than people, customers, or real performance. The focus was on activity metrics, not on helping employees succeed. The VP in Austin was one of the least effective leaders I have worked under. He added little value, offered almost no useful coaching, and seemed disconnected from what it takes to lead a team. A lot of the leadership felt like nepotism and favoritism, with certain people clearly protected or promoted based on relationships rather than merit, which made the organization hard to respect. The culture was driven by pressure and fear. Employees were constantly reminded that their jobs depended on hitting unrealistic KPIs, creating a tense environment where people were more focused on surviving than doing good work. There was very little support, very little accountability from leadership, and no real effort to build a healthy or productive workplace. Until management stops obsessing over KPIs, nepotism, and favoritism and starts acting like real leaders, I would not recommend working here and run. Read the reviews and see the trend.
