Pros

Paycheck is the best thing.

Cons

401k is a joke, only at 2% They make you pay for everything out of pocket even though the cost of living is so high. I think they assume employees get credit cards or set aside money just to do their jobs. It is reimbursed but to assume everyone has a 1k dollars to just spend the next day is absurd. BTW if you don’t have that sort of money Cogent isn’t a good fit for you. Health insurance is ridiculously high. Go get your colo space somewhere else. If you see where they’re keeping your equipment, you may get sick to your stomach. Umm, what else? CEO is cheaper than dirt. Probably gets his grandkids TEMU crap while defending his actions saying something like, TEMU products are just as powerful as BestBuys, so be happy you have it. Just retire dude, you’re not wanted. Also, get your office a ice machine and don’t require them to bring ice trays you cheap guy.

Pros

None, not a single thing.

Cons

I worked at Cogent Communications expecting a strong sales culture, but found a KPI-obsessed environment where leadership cared more about numbers than people, customers, or real performance. The focus was on activity metrics, not on helping employees succeed. The VP in Austin was one of the least effective leaders I have worked under. He added little value, offered almost no useful coaching, and seemed disconnected from what it takes to lead a team. A lot of the leadership felt like nepotism and favoritism, with certain people clearly protected or promoted based on relationships rather than merit, which made the organization hard to respect. The culture was driven by pressure and fear. Employees were constantly reminded that their jobs depended on hitting unrealistic KPIs, creating a tense environment where people were more focused on surviving than doing good work. There was very little support, very little accountability from leadership, and no real effort to build a healthy or productive workplace. Until management stops obsessing over KPIs, nepotism, and favoritism and starts acting like real leaders, I would not recommend working here and run. Read the reviews and see the trend. It’s a joke of a company with the highest churn rate I’ve ever seen.
