Pros

Opportunity to work under a well established and connected brand

Cons

Working at Cognizant Lisbon was one of the most disappointing experiences of my career. What I expected to be a place of growth, learning, and collaboration turned out to be a toxic environment filled with bullying, harassment, and micro-management. There was little regard for the well-being of employees, and it often felt like people were treated as replaceable rather than valued. I witnessed and personally experienced situations where management used fear and intimidation instead of support and communication. The culture made it easy for some to threaten, manipulate, or even delay salary payments as a way to maintain control. It was heartbreaking to see such behavior in a company that publicly claims to stand for integrity and respect. Once I realized how unhealthy the environment was, I chose to resign willingly. Sadly, that didn’t stop the negative behavior. Even after leaving, there were attempts to make things difficult actions that only exposed how deep the lack of professionalism and empathy went. What makes it even more disappointing is that Cognizant invests heavily in trainings about ethics, collaboration, and workplace respect. But from my experience in Lisbon, those values were not reflected in reality. The training exists, but the people enforcing the culture seem to ignore it completely. I genuinely hope Cognizant takes a closer look at what is happening in its Lisbon office and ensures that its global values are not just written words, but truly lived by every manager and team lead. No employee should ever have to choose between their mental health and their job.

Pros

None, run dont even consider them

Cons

"India-first mentality." The company says it wants to work with people across the Americas and Europe, but many decisions still seem to follow an Indian way of operating without properly considering local labor laws, regulations, and workplace expectations. There are serious concerns about job stability. The company frequently praises itself for creating employment opportunities, but at the same time, it appears to be bringing more employees from India into U.S. roles while letting go of people from the Americas and Europe who have contributed to the company. This creates uncertainty and raises questions about the company's commitment to its existing workforce. Every meeting seems to be focused on AI : AI this, AI that, AI everywhere. Employees are constantly asked to complete AI related training and adapt to AI initiatives, while at the same time letting people go so they can afford AI. Compensation is another area that needs improvement. After my contributions and time with the company, my last salary increase was only $20, which felt extremely discouraging and showed a lack of appreciation for employees' efforts.
