Pros
You get paid the same rate regardless of age and it's relatively easy work. We were often left to our own devices and the people you work with are friendly and everyone is often around a similar age. Career progression is decent as they have career paths you can request to be placed on.
Cons
Management at the cafe I worked in were lax in their positions, often taking breaks that far exceed the given amount of breaks to run personal errands. This leaves you understaffed and having to cover other positions outside of your role. One would also sit the elearning for us in their personal time, which meant staff were often underqualified. We weren't offered discounts or benefits such as free food on shift and hours were never consistent, with 30 hours being granted one week to 3.5 the next. Injury forms were never filled out due to the amount of injuries sustained from working in a kitchen unless it was something major and large amounts of equipment did not work, which made the job more difficult as you often had to deal with complaints.
