Pros
They do recognize a well-done job. I have received a couple of awards in the last several years that involved a monetary bonus, a placque, and a certificate. They also did pay for some technical training that allowed me to acheive a certification.
Cons
As a contractor, you survive at the whim of the client - pay cuts are normal. I've taken 2 pay cuts and one forced unpaid week per quarter in the last five years. There are few, if any, opportunities to improve your position. Morale among the people I work around is at an all-time low, due to the repeated pay cuts. Many of us are making less now that we were seven years ago, doing even more work with more responsibilities
