Pros

Some colleagues are genuinely dedicated and care about residents and their teams. Many community level team members are committed and resilient despite limited support.

Cons

The company’s “You Belong Here” slogan is accurate as long as you understand who it actually applies to. “You belong here” if you enjoy watching friends and family have national holidays off while you work. Presidents’ Day, MLK Day, Juneteenth...these are great days to catch up on email. (Industry standard is 12 holidays, floating holidays, and birthdays) “You belong here” if you like using multiple financial platforms, including at least one you don’t fully have access to, and spending a week deciphering numbers just to explain variances. “You belong here” if you believe tenure equals leadership ability. Promotions appear to reward longevity more than people management skills. “You belong here” if you prefer to train yourself. The training function is small and often unavailable, so self service is the default. “You belong here” if early 2000s processes feel cutting edge. Innovation and process improvement are talked about, but not meaningfully implemented. “You belong here” if identical product in every city excites you. “You belong here” if SmartSheet is your preferred enterprise system for tracking… everything. “You belong here” if you like bonuses tied to company performance while leadership is slow to respond to market changes. “You belong here” if Sunday is just another workday. The company’s “You Belong Here” branding is aspirational. In practice, the experience varies significantly depending on whether you are in the home office or in the field. Benefits are below market relative to peers. Most comparable organizations offer full national holidays, floating holidays, volunteer PTO, and other modern benefits. Here, many federal holidays are standard workdays, which sends a clear message about priorities. Operational infrastructure is fragmented and dated. Financial reporting requires navigating multiple systems, with incomplete access and significant manual reconciliation. Producing usable variance commentary can be a time consuming exercise in data archaeology. Leadership development and training are under resourced. New leaders should expect to be largely self taught, with limited structured onboarding or ongoing development. Advancement appears driven more by tenure than demonstrated people leadership capability. The organization is slow to modernize. Processes, tools, and decision-making reflect an early 2000s mindset, with limited openness to innovation or feedback. Product strategy is highly standardized, with minimal differentiation across markets. Compensation incentives are tied heavily to company wide performance, while the organization is slow to respond to market dynamics, leaving leaders accountable for outcomes they cannot influence. Work-life balance is inconsistent with industry norms. Sunday work and availability outside normal business hours are common expectations.

Pros

I do mean this genuinely... this is the best place I've ever worked at. Really excellent culture. The flexible hours are great. It's a pleasure to interact with all my wonderful coworkers and I look forward to going to with everyday. The benefits are quite excellent in my opinion. Beautiful properties. Overall, I'm proud to work here! I do see some comments about a lack of support, and I'm sure everyone's experience is different and it's not fair for me to judge someone else's experience, but I have never personally felt that way. If anything, it shows me they trust their employees and won't micromanage you. However, I've never been left "high or dry"-- they offer immense training documentation in my department and are working to further that! I feel pushed, but in a good way... I'm "better than ever before" as they say. :) Again, this is just one experience, but it's my truth.

Cons

Small nitpicks, but the positives very much outweigh the negatives. As some reviews have mentioned, having holidays like MLK Day and Juneteenth off would go a long way. I think adding these holidays would show you "putting your money where your mouth is" in terms of turning words into action when it comes to YBH. I do think we need to be more realistic with our goals (specifically ones where they impact bonuses) as this is a challenging time industry wise (lots of inventory).
