Pros

-Friendly and talkative coworkers -Interesting work, depending on which department you work for -A good entry job if you're interested in healthcare -High turnover rate, so if you wanted a different shift than what you were hired in as, the position will likely be yours in a few months -Rated Work-Life balance as 3 stars, because while you'll never have to take work home with you as a Lab Assistant, I was often very exhausted at the end of my shifts.

Cons

-Unstable employment. If you are hired on now, it would be a good idea to plan in case of an upcoming layoff. Corewell is doing a "joint venture" with Quest Lab. As of January 2026, all Corewell Lab employees are now Quest Employees. Employees hired on before 2026 will keep their pay rates (likely higher than new hires) but will lose all acquired PTO. There will be considerable downsizing once the Reference Lab in Southfield, MI is built in 2027. -Corewell is the McDonald's of healthcare. Cranking specimens out is favored over accuracy and patient care. -Pay and compensation -Unclean environment (crusty racks and equipment)
