Pros

Participates in Public Employee Retirement System, so if you stay long enough and survive with your mental health, you'll get a pension. Your co-workers are probably good people even if they are frustrated with leadership.

Cons

Leadership is abysmal. It's really broken. Even City Council knows, but there's nothing anyone can seem to do about it. Some departments may be different, but the one I worked in is toxic, and management consists of people who should not be managing employees. A good engineer doesn't necessarily make a good people manager. There's some "good ole' boy" network stuff. There's definitely a culture where management will take all the credit for your work, will micro-manage your day, and generally make you miserable. Management doesn't seem to want to invest in maintaining employee skill set. Please think very carefully before accepting a position here. It has been sad to watch some of the best and brightest employees run away to better opportunities. The community is who suffers when management drives away the good people and promotes the worst.
