We are overworked and underpaid. As a PCA we end up taking on jobs that housekeeping and hospice should be doing. There are always new employees that need training just to be fired a week or two later, which is understandable being that we want the best care for our residents. I just think they should have someone lined up & ready to fill that position.
Majority of the residents have some form of Dementia. Some can be very combative and physically abusive towards staff & other residents. Reports are made and nothing is done about it until someone higher than a PCA is abused.
Supervisors don't take advice from the PCAs when we are the people working with the residents and would have a better understanding of what would work best for them and us.
