Non-union states allow districts to abuse employees - Teacher Craven County Schools Employee Review

Pros

Tech integration and co-workers. Opportunity for PD is there if you make the effort.

Cons

Lack of standardized curriculum. Teachers spend more time creating curriculum from scratch than is reasonable. Leave policy is hilarious. You earn annual leave... it's taken right back from you over holiday breaks. There is not the option to work a day or two of winter or spring break. Nope. You have to use them. Forget getting sick during your first year... you earn 1 day of sick leave of a month.... get that flu shot! Paying for subs... yeah we pay for our subs. So not only do you barely get sick leave if you dare to take a day because your kid is sick or you're sick you then have to pay for your own sub. Bottom line this district is not employee friendly.

Pros

Great students Great teachers Some bright spots in leadership Amazing potential for growth and excellence

Cons

Disorganized Lack of discipline HR Dept. is abysmally incompetent and hostile to even the most banal request. I cannot stress enough that HR is a BIG part of the problem in CCS.
