Pros
Some of the better thing this company does is develops managers via a highly organized training program at other locations. I was flown to another city and put up in a hotel room for two weeks, all expenses paid for training. I found the training to be thought provoking and exciting. However I was sorely disappointed to find out that the actual job was not it was cracked up to be. Many of the people you work with are good (however see cons), my fellow managers were great, however it is unfortunate that we bonded through the dissatisfaction of our employer.
Cons
The compensation looked pretty attractive at first. My base salary was great along with seemingly good benefits. However there is a reason they put managers on salary... it is because you will be constantly pulling 50-60 hour weeks, 12 hour days, and have your days off pulled from under you. The benefits package seemed good, however when you got down to the nooks and crannies, you saw that it cost a fortune and covered very little. It was depressing at best. After working there for a couple months, doing the math: I was making 40k, and it pretty much put me at $11 an hour for the work I was pulling. Forget about a personal life. I had a "set" schedule of every other weekend off, but that changed as the needs of the account changed. I had to break numerous personal plans, miss my dad's surgery, and find last minute child care because they would pull my days off from under me. Now, let me leave this one caviate by saying that every account will be different. I have heard of accounts that treated their managers worse than mine, and some that treated them better. The location where I did my training treated their managers horribly. There is no way I could ever work in that environment. My location was more tolerable, however it was not a pleasant experience. The job started pretty good. I had my responsible areas and got to know my team. However it was quickly realized that no matter how hard you work, and how much you improve, how much you sacrifice, they will ALWAYS demand more; and shame you for not doing everything. Being responsible for over 250k square feet of patient care areas with a skeleton crew is a hard pill to swallow... however upper management will demand that you make it work and figure it out. I kid you not, I could turn a major area around in a shift, and the next day instead of focusing on the good I did, they will find a single vent in a non patient care hallway and ask you why it is dusty. There was no sense of priority or feasibility of operations for upper management. Management also has their favorites. In fact, I could see this because I WAS a favorite. They had a unique way of making you feel good about what you did but in the same sentence cutting you down to your knees. I have never seen this attitude before. Yes, I was a favorite, and I heard everything about my fellow employees... even those at my level. It was a very awkward position to be in, especially when I knew that most of the information I shouldn't have been privy to. It was a very unstable environment, and while I was there, out of 4 managers, two left and one was on his way out. This is due to the morale gap between upper management and my level, middle management. Employees are simply pawns in a weird game. They will throw anybody under the bus if they can. When I was hired, I was told that they (and I quote) "never place blame if things don't get done, because you never know what kind of night other managers had" and that they "work together on issues". I honestly don't know how they were able to tell me this with a straight face. I received a job offer about five months into my time at Crothall and gave notice to my Assistant Director. At first he was shocked and wondered how in the world I could want to leave, but that quickly turned into a bitter cold that followed me until my last day. After I gave notice, my District Manager called me and offered to pay me more to stay. I declined. My director never said another word to me after I gave notice. This was a guy that would talk with me daily... but after I gave notice to him, I was of no use to him. That was simply the icing on the cake. I would not recommend this company to anybody... from the bottom employee up. I have seen how they treat people, and it doesn't get any better going up or down the chain.
