Pros

- If you're willing to raise your own support, you can do pretty much anything you want. - Very low bar for accomplishing anything.

Cons

- Cru suffers from a culture of inbreeding. I.E. Business model for staffing is predominantly convincing college students to raise support for a paid internship, that then they try to convince to turn into a full time supported role. This then bleeds from campus work into headquarters, and people are given roles overseeing technical or specific fields that they have zero professional experience. Projects and goals are then poorly scoped or led. A fair amount of roles that are salaried (I.E. you don't have to raise your own. support) are underpaying, so people that you end up hiring (typically) have little experience, and need to be trained up. Once they do gain the needed training and experience, they leave for a position that will pay them accordingly (rightfully so).

Thank you for sharing your view. That said, we are a missionary organization without a profit source. It is true that our missionaries raise their own financial support, but this is done voluntarily by us because of our commitment to the mission of sharing the love of Christ through a variety of means. We try to find employees who are skilled in their fields to work in the professional roles that are best served by that education and experience. Many of our staff have post graduate degrees in their fields.

Pros

There are many pros to working with Cru. Great people and great teams doing great work in the lives of students at the campuses where they serve. You really get to know fellow coworkers well, and feel connected doing ministry together. You also get to witness firsthand what God is doing. Cru also provides good support and flexibility for needs - whether it be mental health considerations, having children, or needing help on the job. There is also great training provided for the role.

Cons

Support raising can be challenging, even with support and training. National seems to be a little disconnected from campus teams at times.
