It's Retail. Don't expect more than what it is. - Sales Leader DICK'S Sporting Goods Employee Review

Pros

Great if you are self-motivated. You get to talk about your favorite activities as your job. Awesome coworkers. Ability to grow into a lead position if you want to work for it. Fast-paced and there is always something to do. Opportunity for hard workers who are willing to wait for promotion. Would definitely recommend for part-time work.

Cons

Be prepared to wait for promotion longer than you think you should. Work life balance is zero. If you want to succeed you have to give up your time and energy to the business. If that's what you want to do then this could be a pro. The pay does not breed loyalty but that is typical in retail. Expect someone to get hired on at more than what you make with less experience and talent. Say goodbye to holidays and weekends. Growth culture is sold to you but not followed through upon. Culture is dependent on the store manager. Company culture is not consistent or talked about regularly. Not an appealing career path. If looking for part time work, great. If looking for a career, look elsewhere.

Pros

- Unlimited PTO with 401k match is awesome

Cons

- Performance expectations were often unclear or inconsistently communicated, Feedback was reactive instead of timely and actionable. - Leadership quality varied dramatically by manager, with limited coaching or mentorship. - Constant shifting priorities without adjusting expectations or workload. - Psychological safety was lacking, Honest communication feel risky. - Leadership messaging around culture didn't match day-to-day reality. - Process was often valued more than impact or results. - Compensation well below market, w/little flexibility during negotiations. - I felt excluded from key conversations and opportunities that were important to my success.
