Pros

Talented engineers and product thinkers doing their best. Some promising modernization efforts quietly underway. Legacy revenue streams continue to sustain parts of the business.

Cons

Strategy doesn’t fail here due to lack of talent — it fails because the people doing the foundational work aren’t protected. In my experience, internal policies were not followed when performance issues were raised. Recognition is conditional: results alone don’t guarantee support. Critical architectural and platform initiatives were deprioritized or blocked due to lack of understanding or executive discomfort. Foundational work that aligned engineering with business outcomes was allowed to stall — not because it wasn’t working, but because it wasn’t visible or political enough. In my view, this dynamic delayed revenue and diminished the impact of work that had already been approved and forecasted.
