Since becoming “one college” (on 7 distinct campuses, faculty can no longer rely on teaching extra classes (extra service) to make up for our dismally low salaries We were recently told that extra service is a “privilege,” not a “right” as the administration set us up for not being able to teach the number of sections we’d previously taught. I was hired within the past few years, and though I had 16+ years of higher education teaching experience (full-time), they said they could only compensate me for 8-10 years’ experience as the new hiring policy capped out experience. I can’t afford to pay rent on my base salary.
