Pros
- Currently, great benefits: time-for-time pay is a fair way to ensure we get compensated for the effort we put forth. Though this sometimes rewards the inefficient/dishonest. - Creative, funny, (somewhat nerdy/quirky) co-workers who make the "dishonest" part of my first comment not very relevant for Q. Awesome folks. - General concern for employee well-being. Most companies advertise this component, but Q delivers. - Management will allow you to go at your own pace, within reason. If you excel, they're going to throw a lot at you (and compensate you fairly). If you put in an average effort, that's OK, but adjust your raise/promotion expectations accordingly. - Leadership and vision (especially from CEO) is top notch. Working at Quintiq has been so educational and challenging that I don't feel like I need to pursue an MBA or another degree to advance my skills/knowledge base. I enjoy going to work every day and I feel like I'm growing skill-wise. - Leadership lets you *own* a lot of components of a project. You'll own customer communication and a lot of solution design. It's really cool and refreshing -- you will NOT be stifled creatively. - Growing footprint in the industry and powerful, highly-customized software. On the technical cutting edge in a field of dated players. - If you're responsible, your schedule can be flexible. There's no issue with leaving early one day or coming in late another. You can take vacation when you'd like - you just need to clear in advance because of project requirements. - Nice little perks like unlimited soda, snacks and coffee. Two well-financed corporate parties and quarterly dinners/presentations. - Monthly 1 on 1 meetings with directors to ensure you're in a good place and you like working at Q.
Cons
- A lot of us are worried about the acquisition. This may change a lot about the structure of our benefits and our work environment. So, 2016 brings uncertainty. - If you're project is not in a great place, your hours will stack up. You will be expected to do what is needed to bring it back to "green". This means nights and weekends. - Adding to this, when your project is in a bad state leadership will get involved and often times this adds A LOT of work. Expectations from leadership can sometimes be unrealistic and there is less flexibility to solve issues than normal. The big guns come in, do their thing, you'll be a foot soldier, and hopefully the project will go back to a good state. - WLB can be pretty good, but many of us are tacitly expected to answer customer calls at night and during weekends. We're also expected to provide support outside of business hours. This can be draining and frustrating. Do not apply to be a QS or BC f you don't expect to actually deal with the workload and lifestyle. Traveling can pop up without much notice, but it's generally pretty reasonable. - Just-in-time staffing leaves us struggling to keep up with workload at times. - Career path is somewhat unclear (but opportunities are great). eLearning (online training system) level seems irrelevant but is really pushed on us.
