Pros
At DataStax, change is not just embraced—it's celebrated. We understand that in the realm of tech and innovation, change is the lifeblood that propels us forward. It's an opportunity for growth, adaptation, and unleashing your full potential. With the need to move with speed and the requirement to change as technology advances, it gives an incredible opportunity for your ideas to be more than just ideas—they are catalysts for progress. I have not worked at a place where each and every individual voice and opinion matters, as much as it does here. I feel we are empowered and encouraged to be the trailblazers, constantly moving forward with an unyielding spirit. I have never worked alongside so many of the brightest minds in one place and I truly feel we have the talent to revolutionize the world of technology. By no means is it “easy” work that is all unicorns and rainbows. With the thrill of being at the forefront of innovation, empowerment to take action and the brilliance of many, comes very hard work that will challenge you to your fullest potential and the constant push for the next best thing for yourself and technology. With willingness to try new things, we will fail at some things or we will find even better opportunities- if you struggle to see the end goal and anchor yourself on the vision, you may feel like the strategy is all over the place. It really isn’t, we just figure out what works and what doesn’t work at a much faster pace than any other place I have worked with- and we aren’t afraid to move on quickly when we know we can do better. If you work here, you have to be excited to be part of a culture that values agility, welcomes change, and transforms ideas into reality at lightning speed. If you can handle it, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of technology and make an impact that resonates across industries. As far as people and the culture goes, I have never felt more appreciated and truly seen. I am an employee that is a female with children and a long list of responsibilities outside of work, yet I have never felt more present as a mother and a partner to my spouse. I have noticed a significant shift in our focus on diversity & inclusion and efforts to engage and connect employees. I feel it - it’s not just something being talked about. Not to mention, we have the best benefits I have ever heard of, truly impressive.
Cons
You have to be willing to embrace change, to challenge the status quo, and to adapt swiftly to the evolving needs of our industry, or you will not do well here, and will likely hate it. You have to be resourceful and seek out what you need while also being able to take direct and candid feedback. This is not for everyone, and the things that make me love it here are things many may run from, our strengths can also be our biggest opportunities. Yes, just like other tech companies- we need more women and diversity but the work is being done inside the company to help us attract and keep more diverse talent. We aren’t afraid to own where we fall short, and there are areas we are falling short. The difference is, there is noticeable action being taken to get us where we need to be. It takes effort from all of us to make the change we expect to see, you will have to make a conscious effort to help us improve. If you expect perfection and a company that already has it all figured out, rather than embracing the journey and being part of building it together, I would not suggest working here. If you want to point out the gaps and talk the talk, but not put effort in and have the hard conversations to drive change, you will not truly thrive.
