Pros

Good location, employee sales, juice bar, fun product to work with

Cons

David Yurman does not care about the health/safety of their employees! The most toxic workplace that I've ever worked in, from the incessant gossiping/talking behind other coworkers' backs to workplace bullying, harassment, and violence. Shortly after I was promoted, my new manager led the bullying/harassment on my team and eventually randomly threw a pen at me in front of other coworkers (apparently she also bullied the person who previously held my role). She also randomly pushed the back of my head in as I was working at my desk - again, also completely unwarranted. At the time I did not say anything because I feared retaliation, so another coworker voiced what was happening to me to my leadership, who completely dropped the issue. HR didn't take the issue seriously until I reported that there was a witness, whom they also didn't look into and told my manager to simply apologize to me, not even a team change. While I also reported this behavior to the Labor Department, ultimately I chose to not open an investigation for fear of retaliation - and I was right, I discovered an old draft of my annual review saying that my performance was less than satisfactory - but oh, bless leadership for at least asking her to change it to "Meets Expectations." I know now that none of the above was my fault and had nothing to do with me or anything that I may have done, as I've also learned that generally people who partake in such behavior are deeply unhappy/resentful individuals in their lives. In addition, the company has little to no growth momentum/opportunity if you actually care about progressing your career, as most individuals in upper management have been tenured and leadership has their backs, which for the average person would be quite stressful and lead to unpredictable behavior.

Pros

Working at David Yurman was a great experience overall. The pay structure and commission potential are very strong, especially for those who are motivated and good at building client relationships. The jewelry itself is good quality, which makes it easier to sell with confidence, and there is opportunity to make great money, top performing ambassadors are easily earning $110k+ annually.

Cons

While there is strong earning potential at David Yurman, the work environment can be challenging depending on the store and management. At the location I worked at, there was a high level of micromanagement and constant pressure to meet individual monthly sales quotas, even when the store was already meeting or exceeding its overall goals. This created unnecessary stress and took away from what could have been a more collaborative team environment. Because individual performance is heavily emphasized, it can also lead to a more competitive or “shark-like” atmosphere, where sales interactions feel tense as everyone is focused on hitting their numbers. Management styles were consistent, but expectations were extremely high, which can negatively impact morale and work life balance especially during peak seasons. There is also limited flexibility and, in some cases, unclear paths for advancement. While the brand and compensation structure are strong, the day to day experience can feel intense and overly performance driven, making it a difficult long term fit for some employees.
