Pros
Super chill work environment. Decent benefits. Realistic expectations for incoming employees. Gives decent work experience for the 1-2 years needed to get a job at a tech company with upward mobility/decent compensation. Management does a decent job of keeping stressful situations bearable. This is a great place to get your foot in the door to tech if you don't have a degree, but most likely the door won't open for you at this company. You can use the time here to work on getting certs for entry coding or other tech positions that pay better (QA, Help Desk, Infosec, Network tech, etc)
Cons
Incoming employees will almost always be making more than you after a year or so, and you should feel grateful if you complain that they bump you up to be paid the same as someone with zero experience on the job. This results in people that have 3-4 years with the company only being compensated $1-2 more than a brand new employee if they are higher up. You will also be told multiple times to not discuss pay because of this, which is illegal practice since discussing compensation is protected through the National Relations Labor Board. Skill cap takes about 3-6 months to hit, and then there is no clear path to higher/better positions outside of CS. The lack of compensation extends to every other department for the most part unless you have been recently hired or promoted in the last year. Getting promoted/transferred to other departments since you don't want to stick with dealing with customers forever is an uphill battle/non-existent. After leaving the company a few years ago and staying in touch with the many awesome people that work there currently as well as previously, it was pretty much across the board that everyone who left is making significantly more than those who have stayed. Around 2 to 3 times more within a period of a few years. It's not uncommon to get a 20-50% pay bump just by switching companies for a similar position that also has upward mobility with more coding skill sets. If you do get promoted to a different department, you are still more than likely not getting paid market rate. This is not a career establishment. This is like every other tech company where you need to find a new job every 2-3 years to stay competitive for salary increases as well as promotions.
