Pros
DRI is a fast paced company. The executives really push you to better yourself offering to pay for your certifications and advance your skill set. As a business consultant you get to learn the workings of many different companies from a unique perspective. This was my favorite part. You really got a deep understanding how each company you worked for operated, by working with each department. You learn to manage your time and projects and once you have a full stable of clients to work with you are largely autonomous handling the minutia. That being said the other business consultants are available as resources both on the project and in your professional growth. The management team is also available with guidance when you need them. No matter how busy we were and at times we were very busy, the management team would jump on the phone even long after hours to discuss issues you were having on a project. Their technical team is top notch and always available to discuss customizations when you needed to run things past them before suggesting them to customers. When you are busy the pay is excellent.
Cons
There is a lot of travel. You may get lucky and have some local work, but you go where the work takes you. You have to love to travel and living out of a suitcase it's just part of your life. There will be stretches where you are out of town from Sunday night until late Friday night flights home. There is a lot of paperwork from timesheets and expenses to engagement reports and progress reports, these can take hours to keep up on. There are times when you aren't busy and billable time is hard to come by. Learn to keep a nest egg. There isn't much upward mobility.
