Pros
It is possible to have good work/life balance at Dell in a field sales position. The pay plan is not overly leveraged and most managers stress such a balance. A broad product portfolio allows resourceful salespeople the ability to uncover a wide variety of opportunities with their customers.
Cons
Sales compensation is closely managed by Dell to minimize upside -- sadly, this also minimizes sales motivation. Dell is aggressively minimizing employee costs in many ways. Several people (including myself) who have left Dell for other high tech companies have found themselves terminated immediately despite giving customary notice. My advice to anyone in this situation: take all your vacation time and quit with no notice. Any consideration you provide to Dell is unlikely to be reciprocated.
