Pros

Leadership acknowledges the work I do. My colleagues enjoy sharing best practices. I get feedback from administrators on how I can best meet the needs of my students. Denver Public Schools pays a very competitive salary for the area. The school district supports professional development on many levels. They want us to advance in our knowledge of what is "good teaching" for students. They want students to be involved in their own education by providing many choices for furthering their education. Parents can get involved on many levels and are heard concerning their children's education. There are many parent groups at the various schools.

Cons

Student's parents are not involved. Although there are many opportunities for the parent's to get involved, attendance is lagging. There just aren't enough parents who are taking part in the programs. There is one particular program at a high school that aims to get truancy under control. The parents come in with excuses about why their student doesn't attend school. They want the school to "fix" the student so they don't have to perform their parental duties. It takes a village to raise a child and the school can not, nor should it be required, to do it by itself.
