Pros

I worked with some of the smartest and most hard working people at Detroit Labs. The overall company culture is great in the sense they'll give you everything you need to have a good work setup at home.

Cons

I definitely think it is very difficult to get promoted at Labs. I was part of the group that Detroit Labs decided to lay off and granted I knew a few months in advance that there was a possibility and I received help but not the type of help or support that I needed. I saw people with less overall experience be put on other projects while I was kept on the sideline. They have an onsite program which is almost impossible to land, this is where they have other "clients" where you'll get submitted for a role through the Detroit Labs talent specialist but never hear back. I went from hearing from my manager that I won't be laid off to there is a chance I might to being given my lay off date.

Pros

The tricky thing about Glassdoor is it takes ratings throughout the lifetime of a company and can’t be separated by eras. Having been an immersive consultant for 5 years, been apart of extended think ranks, and haven’t worked at other companies of a similar size, I believe I have a vast sample size to compare to. Detroit Labs is a great company from end to end. From the talent level to the camaraderie all the way to the future ahead. The portfolio with the brand names and the projects would be a Greatest Hits album for the vast majority of other customer software development companies. The founding team is intelligent, not just open to listening but will make sure you get the resources to do it, and has created a “cool” culture. It’s tough to describe other than that. But even from the interview process you get a great sense of it. Very professional but nice comedic relief at the same time.

Cons

None that I can think of. No company is perfect, but anything I could list would just be inconsequential nit picky things that don’t matter much, if at all, in the grand scheme of things.
