Pros

Benefits are good Coworkers are wonderful people

Cons

We are worked to death in Member Services. There is no down time ever and you are micromanaged to the point that you have to announce a bathroom break. Time off is rarely approved because we are always short staffed. The Members are some of the most horrible, entitled people I have ever met. Daily I get people who are screaming at me and belittling me. It’s hard to take. Member Service Guides are treated completely different than the rest of the company. We don’t get holidays off the rest of the company does and again the micro managing is abhorrent.

Thank you for sharing your experience -- and we are sorry that your time with Devoted left you feeling this way. We aim to celebrate our Member Service Guides’ work and to ensure that they feel supported by their colleagues. Our Member Service Guides are at the core of the care and experience we deliver for our members. Ultimately, we succeed only if we support our Member Service Guides to solve problems for our members, and we ask teams all over the company -- engineers, managers, clinicians, subject matter experts, etc. -- to respond to requests from our Guides early and late, on weekends, and on holidays. Because of the nature of our work -- providing health care benefits to Medicare beneficiaries -- we must be available to members 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm, including many holidays. To ensure we have Guides available when members call, we must closely coordinate schedules. We know this asks a lot of our Member Service Guide team, and we appreciate and value the commitments they make to take care of our members.

Pros

The mission to serve Medicare members well was clear, and the early culture reflected that. Teams were empowered, different leadership styles were welcomed, and people were trusted to solve problems in practical ways. There are still many talented and mission-driven people at the company who care deeply about the work and about members.

Cons

As the company grew rapidly, the culture began to change. Metrics have always been a focus, which is understandable in a performance-driven environment, but the emphasis increasingly shifted toward tracking activity and “effort” rather than measuring meaningful outcomes. Smaller assignments that once would have been handled with flexibility began to receive disproportionate attention, creating an environment that often felt more micromanaged than empowered. At the same time, accountability did not always appear to be applied consistently across leadership levels, which can be frustrating for teams that are being held to strict standards themselves. Frequent performance framework changes and constant iterations also created confusion and fatigue on the ground. In several cases, supervisor turnover concentrated under the same leadership should have been treated as a signal worth examining. Overall morale in parts of the organization has noticeably declined compared to earlier years.
