Pros
You get weekly pay and the discount is great
Cons
I read the MANY reviews before I started, but I was desperate and the allure of a weekly check was strong. I heard that it was once a great company, but since the death of Dillard's senior, his children have run the company into the ground. Sales Goals/Commission: They have this asinine system of sales. For those of us on commission, we are given a monthly goal. if you go above it you get commission, if not you fall into "deficit" think of it like rollover minutes. if you fall into deficit, however much you owe rolls over onto the following month on top of your new goal, and so on. Plus all returns count against you as well. It can be a 2 mo old return, but if they hit you all at once, as they often do, it pushes you into deficit. once you're in it can be very hard to get out. We used to get 8 mos to get out, then 3, now its up to the manager's discretion. ive seen ppl pushed out [ppl who have been there YEARS] over being a month in deficit. Non commision ppl are pretty much the same. if you dont make your goal they cut your pay, after 2-3 cuts they fire you Also they love to pack depts w/more ppl than it can sustain, that way you fight over sales and fall into deficit and they can fire you Tardies: You can be fired for tardies if you have more than 8. They roll off after 6 mos but if you have a lot you're screwed. We have a sick line to call for emergencies but even if you call in anticipation of being late its a tardy. coming back late from lunch is a tardy too. anything over 5mins is a tardy Credit Cards: we're forced to hawk these, w/no incentives. high interest rates, no immediate perks. if you dont make your credit card quota they take your "guaranteed" weekend off a month Management: always on edge. little communication. so scared over visits, reviews that they run around like chickens w/their heads cut off. they force them to get on the sales floor on weekends, [i.e. compete for sales w/us]
