Pros
-If you have a good team, dollar general can be a fairly straightforward retail job that offers a broad range of skills needed for day-to-day operations in a relatively friendly work environment. I really liked my team and customers overall, and it offered me an opportunity to get started again after a gap in my resume with consideration for my health issues. They were extremely supportive and I was so thankful for the opportunity; but that only applies to this location, not the broader company.
Cons
-Since staffing is so light as a policy, not only do you juggle many hats at all times, but it can be a safety hazard. (A coworker may not hear you fall or a customer can easily corner you.) -Female employees were made to feel unsafe by customers at times and coworkers had to watch each other's backs, as the manager would not ban them unless it happened in front of her. She was often also a victim of this behavior and was trying her best, it was a difficult situation all-around. -DG Corp cares more for profits than employee safety and cameras are to catch employee theft, not monitor and document workplace safety/harassment. -Shifts were often staffed by 1-3 employees max, with people often opening alone. Corporate limits of assignable hours were cited as a constant issue by management.
