I never thought I’d write a Glassdoor review, but after my experience, I feel obligated to warn others. If you’re considering a position at DragonFly, my advice is simple: run the other way. The “smoking causes cancer” warning applies here, and you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by avoiding this company. If you are like me, when you read a bad review of a company you feel like it’s from someone who has an axe to grind because they were fired or were just a bad employee. Read all the reviews. Any good ones are by current employees who were told to write new ones to bury the old ones. Let me be brutally honest. The company has some great employees, and it has potential, but that’s all overshadowed by the owner. He’s a nightmare to work with. He doesn’t listen to anyone, micromanages things he doesn't understand, and constantly changes directions. There are projects that have been in the works for years that are still in the idea phase. It’s a never-ending cycle of frustration. I’ve seen countless examples of unprofessional behavior. The owner will literally walk away in the middle of a conversation, leaving you standing there wondering what just happened. He’s habitually late for meetings, often 30-45 minutes or more, and when he finally shows up, he’s forgotten what the meeting was supposed to be about. If he asks you to set up a meeting, there is a 50/50 shot that he will actually make it. He has horribly inappropriate metaphors for different social settings. He calls employees out in company wide meetings for ridiculous things. Communication is horrible, and when you follow through on the specifics he asks for, he’ll criticize you like you’re an idiot and don’t pay attention. You’ll end up redoing the same work over and over again because he can’t make up his mind or can’t communicate what he wants. And the turnover? Nearly a third of the company has left or been fired in the last couple of years. You will hear that it’s because the company is changing direction, but the truth is because the chaos is unbearable, or you get blamed for the owners inability to get things done. It’s easier to keep hiring new people and pass the blame. One last thing: be cautious with the consulting firm he hired to help hire new employees, train them, and motivate current staff. I’ve never seen a group so bad at their job. They have no understanding of the product, and it’s clear they’re just feeding the owner’s ego, and doing what is best for them vs. the company and current employees. If you hear anything positive during the interview process, know they’re only talking to the owner, not the actual employees. They say they are trying to “build” a company culture and are instead sucking the life out of everyone there. In short, working here is a recipe for incredible frustration and burnout. Everyone is jumping ship. If you value your sanity, find somewhere else to work.
