Your hard work will only get you so far. You are more likely to get stuck in your current position for far less than what they will hire someone else in for. You will also end up doing the work of more than one person, while being told that you have training objectives to continually meet to progress forward. They will focus on the one mistake or short coming for the entire year when it comes time to discussing raises. If your work was 98% impeccable they will still harp on the 2% to not give you a raise or promotion.
