Pros

Everything seems flexible in the beginning. There's a good amount of PTO and a good salary. I was hired straight out of college and was initially very excited. I felt I learned a lot, although very demanding.

Cons

My team didn't always feel very cohesive. There was a bit of tension between managers and the engineers. My interviewer forgot about me during one of my initial screenings and a totally different person showed up in the last 5 minutes after I had already waited 25 minutes. I was told that I'd be working in the offices in Birmingham, and then once I was hired, I was told I'd be working somewhere completely different, which messed with the plans I had made and the time I spent trying to relocate. I ended up getting fired after I missed three consecutive days, but hear me out, I told my manager I was having trouble traveling back home after Thanksgiving in the morning of the second day and that I'd need to use some PTO (this is the last text I sent him and he never reached out to me again). My family had a work emergency and they weren't able to drive me back home right away. My manager knew that my car had been totaled the week before, and I thought everything would be fine. Took the most expensive Lyft ride of my life and got home on the afternoon of the third day and tried to sign in, but I was already locked out. When I spoke with HR, they only seemed concerned about me returning my work laptop. My manager never reached out to me afterwards. I've had a lot of trouble finding a job since, and I had to break the lease on the apartment I had and it's still affecting me financially. Overall, very unfortunate. I loved my team and genuinely wanted to leave an impact. Some have even agreed to be references, but I think taking this job was a big mistake and has made my life harder in the long run. I accept my responsibility in how things turned out too. It could have been easily avoided. I just didn't know better at the time.

Pros

Had a history of supporting employee needs (e.g. hybrid)

Cons

- has become obsessed with in-office culture and "being present" (i.e., super limited full remote roles now), would not be surprised if the exec team submits a RTO mandate soon - compensation is under what you should receive, regardless of tenure or level. The amount of work far outpaces your salary. -because of the point above, burnout and a culture of irritability is omnipresent. - do NOT take the senior promotion, it just results in more work (you do multiple smaller projects in addition to your current workload and now lead trainings) and a small pay increase that does not even match inflation. - expectation that less senior staff have to interpret everything, big lack of clarity between need-to-have feedback and preference-edit feedback - instead of annual raises that match inflation, you get to spend full days quarterly with the team talking about topics that have nothing to do with your day-to-day - Management has become very clique-y, good luck moving into management if you're not already a part of the clique (or fully remote) - Unpaid overtime is expected but you will get shamed for not doing everything during the workday. - We currently work with the military and with the police as recruitment strategists so ICE will probably be next
