Pros

Training and pay raises with every new certification. Job security is good.

Cons

Not great if you're not the conservative type. Construction is not for everyone, and you will either barely get the hours you need during a rainy week, or will be up to your eyeballs in too many jobs. They will throw you into the job before you feel like you really have a grasp on what you're doing. I had co-workers ask invasive personal questions and if I loved Jesus, which makes for a yucky office vibe.

Fantastic work experience for my resume, and beneficial to improving my technical understanding with hands on field experience, and creating reports and updating GIS in office. Working with a small team also has its perks, because you get more exposure to a wide range of the tasks that go into running the business.

Cons

Pay was modest, and sometimes work was slow. I also didn’t get any hands on design experience, though I would have liked to.
