Pros

The training is thorough, anyone can go in with no experience and come out a near expert at locating. Can go farther if you become a lead tech, even farther as a manager. Upward mobility is good, not easy. The work isn't back breaking, just outside a lot. Management is fair.

Cons

The workload is stressful, routes are futile if you get an emergency ping. They want you to finish 16 tickets a day, it ends up being a race against the clock. When I left, they gave smartphone in place of the large PC screen I used for maps. It was a 10x quality of usability downgrade, both in ergonomics and visibility of the maps. Wages are bare minimum for livability. When you apply for this position, negotiate for higher! Don't let them TELL you to start at $18/hr.

Pros

Take-Home work vehicle, cell phone, work laptop, gas card, flexible hours, decent pay.

Cons

It's hard to retain quality locators just due to the location and excessive heat during the summers(Phoenix ,AZ) and scope of some of the locates called in. It can definitely take a toll on your mental well-being, but help is always there if you need it especially when some contractors call in a locate ticket for 10,000 plus feet to be located or entire neighborhoods is they are installing new fiber... Those requests are usually not that common depending on which area you're working but places that are expanding and all that it's more prevalent.
