Pros
Get to be outside (can have its pros and cons). If your a crew chief you get to take your truck home. Provide you with shirts, jackets, etc and a boot stipend.
Cons
Pay is lower than industry average for the area. Must be persistent when wanting to learn new skills. Crew chiefs will show you over time but management trys to pigeon-holed you. If you are trying to learn fast and become a crew chief this is probably not the place to do it. If you want to learn CAD and be a start to finnish surveyor this is definitely not the place to do it. At ESP field guys are field guys and office people are office people. They dont like employees taking time off. Even when you have PTO. They will let you (most of the time) but be prepared to receive push back and get the worst jobs/most troublesome sites when you get back. Management likes to move fast, sometimes too fast. If you take longer than they expect you get questioned (more like accuse). As a consequence if your trying to learn something new no one "has the time" to teach you. The last point can be a positive or a negative depending on the individual. It is an unsaid expectation that employees work 10+ hour days. They will say its an 8hr day but the only time you will work an 8hr day is when it starts to rain. Oh and speaking of rain. If it rains, you dont work, you dont get paid. No coming in to learn a skill (like CAD) or get a few hours work. If it rains 3 days in a week, well, looks like your missing out on 3 days pay that week.
